What non-academic data does that state of Arizona collect about Arizona pupils?
House Bill 2088, Session Law 330 (Fifty-Second Legislature Second Regular Session), requires the State Board of Education to publish on its website a description of all non-test student data collected pursuant to an annually administered statewide assessment such as AzMERIT. The Board is also required to approve the collection of such non-test student data and this item will be on the agenda of the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on August 22, 2016.
The non-test student data currently collected by the Arizona Department of Education on the AzMERIT is as follows:
Student Last Name
Student First Name
Student Middle Name
Birthdate
SAIS ID
Grade
Gender
Race/Ethnicity
Special Education Status
English Language Learner Status
Economic Disadvantaged Status
Migrant Status
The purpose for collecting these data elements are for either student identification purposes or for the analyses necessary to determine that the test items are fair with regard to student characteristics which are outside the student’s control (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, etc.).
The Department’s test vendor is prohibited from sharing AzMERIT non-test student data with any entity other than the Department of Education.
